The Bishop Gassis Sudan Relief Fund works to heighten awareness and assist Bishop Gassis in the provision of food, clothing, shelter, medical attention and the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the people of the Sudan. In 2004, the Bishop Gassis Sudan Relief Fund provided food and shelter to refugees of genocide in Darfur; dug approximately 50 water wells; provided relief air flights to isolated Nuba people; and began construction of an 80 bed referral hospital in the Nuba mountains, the only one in the entire region. Additional projects include building a teacher training center to train the primary educators of the children in the region, and the rebuilding of four new churches and two schools.

Donations will be used for the following projects:

1. Funds to build an 80 bed referral hospital in the Nuba Mountains—the only one in the entire region. This hospital is currently under construction but additional funding is needed to complete and run the facility.

2. Bibles, medicine, medical equipment, used clothing, food, seeds, blankets, tools, soap and salt (which is desperately needed to prevent goiters): These are the bare necessities that allow the persecuted people of Darfur who are streaming into the liberated part of the diocese to survive.

3. Funds to build a teachers training center. There are currently no facilities to train teachers or catechists who will be the primary educators of the children in the region.

4. Funds are also needed to assist in the rebuilding of 4 new churches and 2 schools.
